Over the the past few years I have done progressively more work in Industrial and Commercial photography especially in the stuctural steel engineering sector. I find this work both interesting and stimulating and have many clients I really enjoy working with. It is great discovering what is happening in and around Johannesburg and sharing in my clients success as they win various awards for their creative structures.

The work I do in this sector includes photography, web site development, catalogue design, managing and backing up of clients image libraries, designing collages and the printing and framing of collages so that they can proudly display their achievements for all to see.

The wild is a tough uncompromising environment and only the strongest survive. What I like most about it are the many instances you come across where there is only beauty and moments of tenderness and sharing. This beautiful pair of Malachite Kingfishers is one those instances. Taken in the the Pilansberg nature reserve I was tracking these two guys for some time, hoping for such a moment. Then it happened. That”s what I like about nature photography.

Photographing birds in flight is all about being prepared to capture the moment. But, what happens when you are in the back and also the wrong side of a vehicle with nine other photographers all vying for the perfect shot. You pray and snap away. That”s what I did. Burst mode did the trick although at first I did not think that I had got the shot among all the weaving and bobbing of heads. What a surprise I had when Lookjing through my images at the end of the day. This black shouldered kite in full flight, eyes right and bright. That’s what I like about nature photography.

I love travelling, both Internationally and in South Africa where I live. Travel in Namibia can hardly be described as International to a South African as our histories and cultures are so intertwined. The big difference is that our population is probably 50 times that of Namibia and this has impacted heavily on our environment. Travelling in Namibia today is probably what it was like to travel in the old days in South Africa. Miles and miles of well maintained dirt and tar roads, uncluttered clean countryside and vastly changing landscapes. The Namib desert offers many great photographic opportunities none more striking than Doodvlei the subject of this shot.
